Although it didn't actually snow while we were here, there was a little left over for Eli to play in. He and Johnny had a small snowball fight. Then, with some help from Daddy and Pop Pop, Eli built his first snowman. They used grapes for the eyes and mouth and sticks for arms. By the next morning, his head had fallen off, but it was fun while it lasted.
It's been a busy day. Johnny and I both spent the afternoon finishing up Christmas shopping. As Eli put it, "The boys will go in the boys car and the girls will go in the girls car." And so we did. Then we came home, stuck Eli in our room with a movie and Johnny and I wrapped separately. I was in the kitchen and he was in the formal dining room. We talked (yelled) back and forth while wrapping. Next was dinner, homemade chicken and dumplings and corn. Then we opened our presents under the tree. Eli and I sprinkled his reindeer food (oatmeal and glitter) from the edge of the driveway to the front door. The glitter is so they can see our house all the way from the sky. Next came making gingerbread man cookies so Santa won't leave hungry. Finally I went to Wal-Mart at 11:30 to finish stocking stuffers for in the morning. I am beat, but very happy. I'm very thankful for my precious family :)
Eli: Mommy I think I want to be a mailman when I grow up.
Me: Why a mailman?
Eli: Because then I could take people yetters (letters), not everyone gets yetters, then everyone would have yetters.
Me: That would be nice.
Eli: And then all the people would be happy. I yuv (love) getting yetters!
You can't see or hear Eli, but he is making funny faces to make Zoe laugh. She just lights up when he is around.
Zoe took her first shower last night. She loves baths and Johnny has been wanting to give her a shower. Then of course, Eli had to join them for a few minutes. Eli and Zoe are both water babies. They love their baths, and now they both love showers too.
We went to our RPA (Rockwall Preschool Assoc.) Christmas party this morning and Eli was actually excited about Santa. I say this because the last time we attempted to get a picture with Santa, you would have thought I was
pulling his hair and beating him at the same time. I had never, and have not since, heard him scream like that. He was still crying 10 minutes later when we were out of the building. It was a very unpleasant experience for everyone around us as well. This was after we had stood in line for an hour and a half at the old county courthouse in the stairwell and winding around pews in the courtroom. Then I had to almost take the picture lady down to get my $10 back because she didn't understand why I didn't want to buy her picture of my terrified child clawing to get aw
ay from Santa.
Anyway, this year was much better. We ate breakfast, decorated cookies, did some crafts, watched a puppet show and met Santa. Then the kids did a book exchange. It was really cute. They all sat in a big circle and one of the moms read a story. Every time she said Santa, they passed the book they were holding to the right. At the end of the story, they got to keep the book they were holding. Eli got If You Give a Cat a Cupcake. Anyway, it was a good morning and now we are all ready for a nap.
