Catch up for Eli

We've had a few fun and important things going on around the Tomasino house the last couple of weeks. Johnny's brother Cesar cleaned Eli's teeth in San Antonio, but he went to the dentist for his first "official" cleaning last week. He sat perfectly still and didn't twitch at all (hopefully this means he does not have my distaste for the dentist's office). Dr. Allman told us that he has perfectly spaced teeth, which means when his baby teeth fall out, his permanent teeth should come in nice and straight. Yeah, looks like no braces in the future! He got a new toothbrush, toothpaste and a water bottle from the treasure chest. He now brushes his teeth every day after lunch "because I went to the dentist".

Eli has also started taking showers
by himself. He washes his hair and his body, except his back, which I reach in and wash. He has taken showers with Johnny or me since he was only a few months old, and most of the time prefers them to baths. I am so proud of him, but a little sad to reach these types of milestones because it reminds me how much he is growing up.
He has also been playing basketball on a city team. It is a six week long program that teaches the basics of basketball. The first four weeks they rotate through skill groups and then the last two weeks they will play games. I'm not sure how or if they will lower the goals, but hopefully they will so they can score. However, tonight on his shooting rotation, Eli made a basket. He kind of granny shot it, but it went in. He came running over to me at the end of practice and asked if I had seen him. I told him I had and that I was so proud of him. His response was, "I have wanted to make a bastick (basket) my whole life mommy! Yesssss!!"

One more thing that has started around here this week is that Eli has learned how to change the channel on the remote by pressing the numbers. Yes, Eli has learned to recognize his numbers 1 through 10. I can tell him which ones to push and he goes in the other room all by himself and puts it on his channels. He told me yesterday that he k
ept changing the channel with the up and down buttons, then pressing the numbers again to "practice". Maybe this should be a sign that he's been watching too much TV. Oh well, I'm proud that he's learning his numbers :)

I really wish I'd seen him make that basket. I'm so proud of him.
